Ring tones??
Star Trek communicators only make one sound. Ring tones would totally
ruin the experience. Anything other than the staticy chirp-chirp-chirp
heard when Kirk flips open his communicator would be unthinkable.
As a side note, anybody ever read the Star Trek Technical Manual? The
original series version has a complete circuit diagram for the
communicator... unfortunately I don't know quite enough about
electronics to really figure if it's a real radio circuit or not... it's
certainly plenty complex though..
