I've been using the Sveasoft firmware that is freely available (freeman, I think?). I don't think it's open source, but it is a little easier to configure than OpenWRT for those like me who don't know too much about networking, since it still has the nice graphical web based interface.

Actually, we have a cool setup at our house. It's a rental, so I didn't want to put holes in the walls and wire the house with cable, so I use my WRT54G as a bridge to my roommate's WRT54G to get my computer on the network. I did this because we already had the routers from before and I didn't want to buy another wireless card when the router already has the hardware I need :)

I'm still running the vanilla Linksys firmware on my WRT54G. Today
during my morning blogscan I ran across a linux today article on
hacking it, which got me to thinking about it again.

It's been a while since the trilug meeting on this subject. I was
wondering which of the various WRT54G open source projects triluggers
had gotten experience with. The article points to DD-WRT which is
based on Sveasoft. How does this compare to others like openwrt?

What functions/improvements have you added to YOUR WRT54G
