if i were going to buy an amp to drive multiple speakers, i'd get a multichannel one that lets me control volume at the preamp level (and by software).

I know that it's off-topic, but I figured that this tech-savvy crowd
might have suggestions.

We have a whole house audio system, and the amplifier seems to have
gone bad. The system itself isn't very sophisticated, the amp drives
7 speakers around the house through impedance matching volume
controls.

I'm looking for something reasonable in cost which produces maybe 50
watts into an 8 ohm load. Where's the best place in the Triangle area
to look for such a beast?
