What drivers are you using for the card? Also, try setting it back to default with `iwconfig eth1 bitrate default' and see if that fixes anything.

I don't know if there is a config. file that iwconfig messes with, but if you could find the line that setting the bitrate added and delete that, it seems like that'd fix it.
