i deleted your original post, but i think the syntax of your valias.txt file might be suspect. if you want to email me your main.cf and valias.txt files i'll take a closer look.

Well in my case main.cf has
virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/valias.txt

As I said in the original post, the timestamps on
/etc/postfix/valias.txt and /etc/postfix/valias.txt.db indicate that
the second was produced from the first (via postmap).

I'm still mystified why it is working for one domain but not the other.
