I know this is probably not best practice but I run about 12 Mandriva servers in three locations and they all auto-patch. I have one server that uses fmirror to mirror the urpmi sources and all of the servers connect the machine that I control for updates. They have all been auto updating for as long as I have been using linux. At first it was because I didn't know what most of the patches did anyway. Now it is because I simply do not have time for testing every patch. I am busy enough keeping my Windows boxen (there are lots of them) afloat along with my various other duties. My philosophy has been to this point that if it breaks I'll fix it. I know this is asking for trouble but it hasn't bitten me yet. I've had a lot more trouble with config files changing and programs not working by moving from one distro version to another (2005 to 2006 for example) than I have with auto updating. Just my two cents...
