You probably want a Wildcard TDM400P setup with both FXS and FXO ports.

You would hang a phone off of a FXS port.
You would plug in a trunk line from your Nortel Switch into an FXO port

The Asterisk developers kit has a TDM400P that comes with one FXS port
and one FXO port.

You can generally get this for around $200

First off, a hearty thank-you to everyone who has contributed to this
thread. I knew I'd get a wealth of knowledge.

Time for a dumb question.

When I connect my Asterisk server to our existing PBX through an ATA,
I'm going to hook it to a FXS module, as if it were a telephone _line_,
and not to an FXO module (as if it were a telephone _set_), right?

Cheers,
~Brian
