Hello Brian,
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but if you haven't yet looked up
the Athlon XP Core technologies your motherboard supports, you will need
to make certain that the one you bought is one of the supported
varieties. For example, a motherboard that supports the Athlon XP
Thoroughbred may not support the Palomino, and so forth. This is
because the voltages required for the different core technologies differ.

On my previous computer, I purchased the fastest processor that was
compatible with the MSI Master K7 motherboard - an Athlon XP Palomino
2100. Unfortunately this processor had very high cooling requirements
and was barely stable enough to be useful. It worked much better with
the previous 1800.
You also need to make certain you have sufficient cooling on the CPU.
Athlon XPs run hot and require very good heat sinks & fans.

I recently received a used AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor for use in my ASUS
A7V266-VM motherboard. I was told it was pulled from a working machine, but I
cannot get the machine to post when the processor is installed. I've verified
the motherboard and BIOS support the XP2200+ and reverified the pin settings,
but no go. The board works fine with the current Duron 800 in the box.
My question is: Does anyone have an AMD Athlon XP processor they are willing to
loan so I can test the motherboard to see if that is the problem, or does
anyone have a AMD Athlon XP system they are willing to test my CPU with? I work
in the Park and live in the Apex area and would be more than willing to pick up
or deliver said item.
Just to make this more on topic, this machine will be part of my linux home
network, once I get it working.
