Does it have to be ssh under Cygwin, or could it work with plink, the PuTTy
command line tool?

Roy, though BackupPC's "preferred" method for backing up windows is
samba, you don't _have_ to use samba.  You could also use tar or rsync
over ssh if you setup the windows boxen with sshd under cygwin.  I still
vote for BackupPC :)
