thanks for the help, that installed it

yea, strange thing about it, i did a yum list for the unixODBC and it said it was installed

but one of the other packages that the gui thing had was the unix odbc... idk, i guess this is why the command is better. (plus some general knowledge)

libodbclient is part of some other rpm.  If you try:

yum install mysql-server mysql

that should install mysql as well as all other packages it depends on, including the package libodbcinst.so.1 (that file is included in the unixODBC RPM)
