pygtk-2.6 seems to want a later glibc than is delivered on rhel 4?
Paging Matt Frye:

I had thought pytgtk-2.6 was a no go on RHEL4. But Matt's tutorial
speaks of 2.6.
FC4 supports pygtk-2.6. FC5 supports pygtk-2.8.
Ubuntu Dapper support pygtk-2.8. Ubuntu Edgy supports pygtk-2.10.
