I work in a Windows world and would like to KEEP using Linux. I migrated from
FC3 to FC5 because of legacy. Since *someone* in their infinite wisdom (or
stupidity depending on where you find yourself) decided it was a good idea *NOT*
to offer smbfs as an option, I find myself in a delema...how to get to the
Windows shares at work.
I *have* to login to multiple Windows 2k3 domains (AD). The old way of
connecting to my shares was simple:
smbmount //server/share /mnt/point -o username=user/domain
This worked. No problems. But those someones who said "Why would *anyone NOT
want to do it my way" and make the decisions to remove the *working* options and
force users to use the "should be labeled experimental" new way.
I don't want to have to recompile samba. If it were just me, I wouldn't care,
but I've been teaching people the ease of migrating from Windows to Linux as a
desktop. This is really irritating...
Now to the question:
when i do "mount -t cifs //server/share share" I get the following error:
"Missing fs type, bad option, bad superblock, etc, etc ,etc"
dmesg says "CIFS VFS cifs_mount failed with return code -22"...this is a "stock"
just built install with yum updates. and NO GNOME!!!
Anyway, has anyone seen this error? I've googled for about 1 hour now and can't
find it. I've been through the fedora forums and faqs, and still no avail...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
And to those that make the decisions on Fedora, forcing someone to use a product
that's replaces another is not a smart decision. Pisses long time users like me
off, and causes new users and would be converts to scoff and go away...
