Did you make sure the volume was turned up? By default, I believe, it starts out as set to 0.

Setting up my IBM T42 laptop with linux and having a problem with sound. I've tried installing Kubuntu 6.10 and I get no sound output. You can see it is playing the mp3 or wav file but no sound. I tried installing SUSE 10.1 or even using a Knoppix 5.0.1 disk and same senario. Just to make sure the hardware was ok I reinstall winxp and I have sound. So, is this a driver issue or am I just missing something in the setup? Anybody else seen these issues with a T42? What can I do to get the sound working. Thanks for your help.
