On my machine (which updated to 1.6 without incident) I have the
following in /etc/portage/package.keywords

dev-java/sun-jdk
dev-java/java-config
dev-java/java-config-wrapper

I had it there originally to ensure I ran with the 1.5 JDK - however
it has also picked up the 1.6 now, and it all seems to be working
correctly.

I'm assuming you have java in your USE="" flags?

My jdk's are set to the standard:

virtual/jdk
virtual/jre

The new dependency on java 1.6 happened gradually as I did updates -
first for just a few packages, then for world.

The jdk section in my package.keywords does not mention jdk 1.6

I assume that new packages are arriving with dependencies on jdk 1.6.
I'd rather stick with 1.5, but right now I can't do security updates.
