Unless the battery is a dead-short (never seen that in a "coin cell" 
before) that won't do anything.

The suggestions of stripping down the system are good: that technique 
will even allow the solution of multiple simultaneous hardware failures 
(seen that twice, solved that way) Sometimes you've got to go to the 
extent of pulling the motherboard/power supply from the case. There's a 
threaded standoff near where the BIOS chip usually sits that can ground 
the traces associated with the BIOS chip.
