You probably didn't want to hear this, but I've run into similar problems
with wierd keyboard and mouse stuff.  In one case a mouse had to be replaced.
Another was a faulty KVM cable and yet another was a fauly MB.

I believe you should try diagnosing a hardware issue first.  Go from cheap
to expensive (cable, KB, MB) and hope that it ain't the MB.
