i don't have a debian linux 1.3.1 development platform around.

i'm trying to get a pcmcia ide drive working with trinux from the
material available on ftp.trinux.org. (according to fdisk, the disk
has an ext2 file system already built on it.)

i started with a 0.62 kernel. but the package 0.62/contrib/pcmcia.tgz
does not work with the .62 kernel distribution, since programs like
/sbin/insmod and a bunch of directories are missing.

moreover, i have no convenient way to build insmod (and my caldera
2.2.14 /sbin/insmod dumps core when i execute it on trinux...)

so then i went back to 0.51. with the pcmbase and pcmod* packages, it
complains about module ide_cs not found. so i created an additional
mod package, with ide_cs.o and ds.o. now when it loads the pcmcia
modules it complains that it can't find symbols ide_register and
ide_unregister, which appear to be in block/ide.o? which i can't
find anywhere...

(by the way, when i try instead to load an ethernet card, it looks for
/sbin/ifconfig instead of /bin/ifconfig. but i can manually config
the card up...)

any suggestions?

should i try trinuxAG for this purpose, or will i be equally
frustrated...
