I am probably the only one who will say this, so I shouldn't have to bother
saying that this is my opinion and definitely not that of the Trisquel
project.
People will say that if you use one non-free blob, you might as well just use
a non-free GNU/Linux or even Windows. I do not believe this. I think using
Trisquel with a non-free blob or two is a "lesser evil" than going completely
non-free, as long as you are consciously aware of the decision you made and
you strive to be as free as possible. Keep in mind, however, that if you
choose to go this route, the Trisquel community won't help you. We generally
don't help anyone with non-free software, drivers, or firmware.
Of course, the best option is to find a better graphics card, but from what I
can tell you're talking about a laptop, and I'm not sure how many laptops
allow you to switch out graphics cards nowadays.
I had an Acer laptop (one of the Acer Timeline models) and it worked
flawlessly with Trisquel.
