This is how my Auto eth0 is set up (going online through a router, not a  
modem):
IPv6 is ignored. Automatic DHCP is activated for IPv4, available to all users  
is checked. 802.1X is disabled, MTU is automatic.

If you have a DSL modem, I think you have to set up a DSL connection in the  
Network Connections menu and give it the username and password received from  
your provider. Definitely no need for doing this, if you have a router.
