Take a look at "System/Administrations/Software sources" (translation from  
French, the last entry may bear a different name). You can there see all  
mirrors of the repository and "select the best" (w.r.t. the latency I guess)  
by clicking on a button. Only mirror.fsf.org is in the USA.
