There's a big difference with Firefox 12 (beta) in Trisquel 5 Gnome with
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.32.0) enabled.(yet not available in Debian Testing - I'll see if I can install the sid version.
I can see all the Linterna Magica frames and the content.I can download vimeo mp4 so it's all right. I'll try Linterna on other video website that don't offer WebM.
