I'm also rocking Taranis (4.0) and updating when 6.0 comes out which is a  
long term support (LTS) release. As for your MAME situation, all I can find  
is sdlmame in the non-free "multivere" repository for Ubuntu for which  
Trisquel doesn't include. You can try to hunt it down in an Ubuntu  
repository, but won't get advice from the people here in how to install it.

If you do like emulation, theres always fceu (NES) and zsnes (SNES) emulators  
available to download in the Trisquel repos.
