That indeed looks like a hardware problem...When the graphical desktop freezes, you can try to log in a terminal that you obtain by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (ou F2, ou... jusqu'à F6). From there you can attempt a restart of the graphical session:
$ sudo service gdm restart
Looking at the logs (e.g., using GNOME's system log viewer) may help in identifying a problem.
