Jumping to GNOME 3.4 is not advisable. Somebody on this forum tried and had  
to revert. You can add some GNOME 3.2 components that were specifically  
selected for working with Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric). Trisquel 5.5 (Brigantia)  
uses a very similar selection of packages and this PPA should work well.
