Afaik there are compatibility issues between Gnome 2 and Gnome 3 fallback
mode. You can't do all you used to be able to do. I think a lot of plugins
for the panel will be missing, etc.
If you were on Fluxbox, that's nice for you. Changes within Gnome will not
affect you that much. But if you were on Gnome 2 all the time and suddenly
it's Gnome 3, you are facing the neccessity of quickly adapting to a new
environment, so you can go on with what you have been doing before. Be it
because you want to switch from Gnome or because you want to stay.
I don't like the Gnome 3 environment and switched to KDE. After a long time I
still can't do all the things I've used to be able to do, just because KDE is
different and I have to "learn it's ways".
