The only time that I'd consider acceptable to write software for a non-free  
platform would be if it was to assist users off that platform. Short of this  
you are attracting users to a non-free platform. That's not good.

Regardless of what you do try and avoid letting the free/non-free issue get  
in the way of moving away or helping others move away from non-free software.
