Squeezing the GFDL onto an A4 page is possible if you use a sufficient amount of force. I have arranged a squeeze-version in LaTeX format once, in case you have interest.
I don't interpret either section 2 or 3 of the GFDL such that they would
require you to physically attach the license text to the mouse pad. The
purpose of the requirement to publish a copy of the license together with any
copy of the licensed work is to make sure, the person who receives the copy
knows about her rights. The GFDL gives no reason to assume a different
interpretation of this requirement. If you put a copy of the license into
the box, this purpose is perfectly fullfilled. At least, this is how I think
the license is to be interpreted in Germany. If there are front or back
cover texts, this is a different story, of course.
