I'm not sure how concerned people are with getting security updates although  
Canonical does not maintain a lot of the software in the Ubuntu repositories.  
Sticking to stuff  Canonical maintains is probably ideal or maybe switching  
to Linux Mint. I don't think that would cause any kind of delay. Linux Mint  
is quick to release compared to Trisquel. However I don't know what Linux  
Mint's stance is in regards to security updates. It may not help at all.

As others have mentioned having a version with accesability support is also  
important.
