If that does not work, I would try to execute:
$ xrandr --dpi 96
You can even try smaller values. If it works as expected (everythin bigger)  
then add, with your favourite text editor this line to  
/etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart:
@xrandr --dpi 96
(or the other value).
