I love Debian on the server although it has major shortcomings on the  
desktop. I think the main advantage to Ubuntu is stability, desktop support,  
and packages that are newer than in Debian.

It would be nice if there was a Debian flavor geared toward the desktop that  
was more up to date. Unfortunately there isn't. Testing really is beta  
quality. If your going to do something based on Debian it would probably best  
to use the backports repository and pull from it.
