Many sites use Museo Sans because the company that makes it gives away one of  
the font weights for free. It is free as in "we are temporarily giving you  
access rights" hoping you like it so much that you license the rest. It does  
not use an open license either.

A lot of sites use Proxima Nova and Benton Sans, which is also non-free but  
the Lato font face comes close. Its not as polished as those too, but its  
under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and is available for download and  
Google's Webfonts service.
