The screeenshot from GNU.org is from Trisquel 4.0 based on Ubuntu 10.04 using  
GNOME 2.30. Since GNOME 3 Trisquel have problems to do the old panel  
"Windows-like/KDE-like". (Personally I don't like. I prefer GNOME Shell).

This is one problem from Ubuntu applet (I think). Probably the default GNOME  
3.4 Fallback can do the opacity.
