Yeah, permissions might be the thing if your USB sticks and such are ext or
something similar rather than FAT. Alternatively, this might sound silly, but
check the "lock" switch on the SD card(s): there's an optional feature that
will cause an SD card to be treated as read-only when that is in the "lock"
position (though I don't know if Trisquel supports this feature).
