Regarding the LGPL: that is the GNU Lesser General Public License. It's the  
same as the GNU GPL, but has an exception which allows proprietary programs  
to link to it as a library (at one point it was called the "GNU Library  
General Public License", but the name was changed to prevent the implication  
that all libraries should use it).
