You could see the upcoming version of gNewSense as the result of the learning  
process of the new maintainer.

I guess, if it would be an easy thing to do, the maintainer of any libre  
distribution would be happy to release early the most up to date version of  
the distro. But that is not the case. There are many users and just a few  
developers.

Here's an answer of the current maintainer about why not base gNewSense 3 on  
Debian Wheezy:
