By the way, I'm not sure you need to switch. The sole reason the FSF doesn't endorse OpenSUSE is that it makes it easy to install several non-free packages; you could check to see if any of those packages are on your system and then remove them if necessary. This page says nothing about blobs in the kernel like a lot of other distros.
Yes, there is a way to make a USB installation device. Use UNetBootIn
(available in OpenSUSE's repositories as I found with Google) to put the
image onto a flash drive which then works exactly like a CD.
