When I tried to boot from the Live CD, Trisquel demanded that I provide a
username and a password. I didn't know what to type, so I quit and booted
from my hard disk instead.
I tried your suggestions. I can connect to the wireless network with the USB
Adapter, but I cannot access any website at all, including my router
configuration page. Turning the router off and on didn't work either. I tried
typing the two commands in Terminal. I got this:
fish@fish-Satellite-L645:~$ iwconfig
bash: iwconfig: command not found
fish@fish-Satellite-L645:~$ ifconfig -a
bash: ifconfig: command not found
