Users deserve the control of their computing because... it is *their*  
computing! With proprietary software, the program controls the user (she  
cannot know what it does, maybe malware; she cannot modify it, e.g., to  
correct a bug; she cannot share the program with her friends; she falls under  
a monopoly of support; etc).

Developing proprietary software is evil. The better a proprietary program is,  
on a technical point of view, the more users feel their right to control  
their computing it is not worth the use of a less effective but free program.  
We must fight for freedoms or we will lose them.
