Canonicial's "Unity Next" is going to be Qt based, so maybe it was smart for the LXDE team to test the waters with Qt and get the benefits of Mir down the road.
The Razor-Qt project has been stagnant and I'm glad that two free software
projects are actually working together to create something better. I'm
curious to see how LXDE works when they move to Qt and the quality of
applications that are merged from GTK to Qt.
