This is one of the reasons I've been a big advocate of moving away from x86.  
It's getting worse and worse and there isn't a good solution. RMS speech  
talked about this issue (on a broader scale of hardware) at 2013 Libre  
Planet. The problem is the financial cost of fixing things and the lack of  
demand within the community.
