Recording sound directly from line out (jack connector) is a bad idea, since  
the audio is converted from digital to analog signal using the onboard  
converter/amplifier, and this seriously damages the audio source you want to  
record (I have experience with this).

As ssdclickofdeath suggested, you should use some software recording utility,  
that can grab the the sound virtually. I am pretty sure you can find some on  
GNU/Linux, but since I does not need/use one, I cannot make any  
recommendation for you.
