I figured out the problem. The addon doesn't work with the latest Abrowser  
version (20.0) available on Trisquel 4.1 (which I use), nor on the default  
Abrowser version (19.0), that comes with Trisquel 6.0. After the web-browser  
(in virtual machine) was upgraded to the latest version (24.0 if I remember  
correctly), the addon started to work, and the VM froze (old hardware).
