Hi there and welcome. Few things to try is a newer Linux-libre kernel, you  
can easily install one from http://jxself.org/linux-libre/

And then you can try updating the X server packages, you can use the Synaptic  
package manager to do that. The newest xserver packages have a -lts-raring  
suffix.

It might also help to remove the splash parameter from GRUB config. (And then  
update-grubbing.)
