Usually things should just work. However when they don't it might be because  
of needing a newer kernel or because of non-free firmware the adapter might  
require.

If you open a terminal window and input
lsusbwhat's the output?
You can try a newer kernel from http://jxself.org/linux-libre/

If it won't work even on a new kernel, you could get one that's guaranteed to  
work from
