It should probably work out of the box. One of two things. Either the system
has an on/off button (check the special function keys at the top; they are
F1-F12, press FN + the one with a wifi symbol to turn on/off) or a physical
on/off switch somewhere on the laptop. This or the on/off button is software
controlled and doesn't work and it's off by default. You may have trouble
getting a USB wifi adapter to work too if this is the case.

You might be able to get it working via above instruction. There is a trick
to force it on via tape... but its a pain and not really a good workable
solution.
Best thing to do is switch laptops and pay attention to what your buying the
next time around.
