@quantumgravity: I have no doubt that Debian is "compromised" in the pretty much same way as every GNU Linux distribution is compromised as well. Due to the sheer amount of code for the Kernel itself, all applications used and all the libs included it is close to impossible to validate code for possible implemented weaknesses / back doors.

Also lets not forget that are areas with a high complexity are not really understandable for most devs. This applies to critical areas like lib OpenSSL and possibly a lot more.

Of course this is no argument against free software. No-one said so.
