Protests and petitions won't get you anywhere.
The solutions are, either (1) to get rid of your government, or - if you're
in favour of one - (2) to install a new government.

Protests are usually just a way to let some "steam" off, and keep people from
doing other more effective things, that might actually hurt the
establishment.
And, if I was a member of the political class, I would treat "petitions" as
toiled paper.
If these are the only two ways that you're all planning to "fight" this, I
advise you all to seriously consider, either (1) leaving your country, or to
(2) get ready for the worse.
