If the laptop came with an atheros wifi card it'll probably work. It's that  
they can't be swapped for a compatible one that is the problem. If it works  
and you already own it by all means use it (unless you don't want to promote  
a company which is selling defective-by-design products anyway, but then  
again, nothing says you have to use it in public places either).
