Many shops in Poland do this, often with order-specific account numbers. I think it's ok, especially if it means paying only when it's certain that the order can be fulfilled. Payment when receiving a package is common here too.
(I haven't ordered the adapter discussed here, while it makes me unsure if I should replace the big TP-Link device that I use for one of my laptops.)
