So, you should be able to use AR9271/AR7010 devices by just plugging them in.
The firmware isn't installed onto the device. Instead, a firmware file is
loaded by the driver into the RAM of the device. The driver is part of
Linux-libre, as long as you keep your kernel updated, and the firmware just
has to be installed so the driver can find it. In Trisquel, you need the
package open-ath9k-htc-firmware, and you probably already have it if you keep
your system updated.
